The Texas Rangers scored two runs while the Philadelphia Phillies scored three runs.<\/p>\n
A genuinely terrible Dallas Cowboys preseason game was squatting on my local FOX channel, rendering me to Gameday only tonight. It doesn\u2019t seem like my eyes missed much but your stock standard 2025 Texas Rangers game, however.<\/p>\n
Following an out to lead off the game, the Rangers produced three first inning singles in a row, with Wyatt Langford\u2019s hit giving Texas a lead but one they would struggle to build on. After that rally, the Rangers went hitless in six attempts with runners in scoring position while leaving six on base overall.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Jacob deGrom bounced back from the West Coast road trip from hell and was shoving through six innings without much traffic on the bases. But after a one out walk and single, the Phillies suddenly had two on in the seventh, producing a scoring opportunity with deGrom\u2019s pitch count in the 90s . Were this the Rangers at the plate, you can guarantee no runs would score.<\/p>\n
However, Philly immediately delivered on their first real chance of the night with their No. 7 and No. 9 hitters collecting runs-scoring hits. The Rangers didn\u2019t capitalize on their chances outside of a spurt in the first inning \u2014 they scored their second run in the eighth on a Corey Seager solo home run following and preceding a lengthy spell without base runners \u2014 but the Phillies made the most of their best chance. There\u2019s your story, and it\u2019s one you\u2019re likely all too familiar with.<\/p>\n
Since sweeping Atlanta in the final week of July to convince Chris Young and Co. to buy at the deadline, the Rangers have gone 4-8.<\/p>\n
Player of the Game: I mean, deGrom was dominating through six innings but it\u2019s a tightrope walk with this club and he couldn\u2019t produce a Nathan Eovaldian effort. Perhaps a bit gassed, deGrom allowed a two-run double in the seventh and then that runner scored following his exit to add to his final ledger.<\/p>\n
Still, 6.1 innings of three-run ball on six hits and one walk with eight strikeouts is a solid outing that only feels worse because the bats are the Swamps of Sadness dragging Artax under.<\/p>\n
Up Next: The Rangers will try to avoid getting swept in tomorrow\u2019s finale. To do so, they\u2019ll have to tackle RHP Zack Wheeler while countering with LHP Patrick Corbin, so, uh, good luck!<\/p>\n
