Mike Yastrzemski<\/a> wasn\u2019t teammates with Rafael Devers<\/a> on the San Francisco Giants<\/a> very long, but had nothing but high praise for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was the best, man,\u201d Yastrzemski, who was traded to the Kansas City Royals at this year\u2019s deadline<\/a>, said during an appearance on \u201cFoul Territory.\u201d<\/a> \u201cAwesome teammate, willing to do whatever he had to. I think he just got thrown into a weird circumstance (with the Red Sox). And I think sometimes as players, you have to stick up for yourself. And I think that\u2019s what he tried to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe works his tail off, he tries to help everybody,\u201d he later added<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s really smart, and he cares about winning so much. So I don\u2019t understand where all the heat came from.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yastrzemski, the grandson of Red Sox<\/a> legend Carl Yastrzemski, is referring to Devers\u2019 tumultuous 2025 season in Boston. First, he said he didn\u2019t want to move off third base<\/a> \u2014 the position he played his entire career \u2014 to become the designated hitter. It happened after the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman, and after a slow start at the plate, Devers began to find a groove.<\/p>\n

But then Triston Casas<\/a> went down with a season-ending knee injury<\/a> and the Red Sox approached Devers about the possibility of playing first base. The conversation didn\u2019t sit right with the 28-year-old<\/a>, who said he felt the team didn\u2019t keep its word.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox traded Devers to the Giants in June<\/a> and he has appeared at first base for his new team<\/a>. He told reporters he would play wherever San Francisco needed him to<\/a> and that he preferred being on the field<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Giants have lost their last three games and are 17-28 since the trade. They\u2019re 4\u00bd games out of the third National League Wild Card spot going into Tuesday\u2019s game against the San Diego Padres. Making the postseason is still within reach, but the Giants need to turn things around quickly<\/a> before falling deeper into the standings<\/p>\n
