New Ulm’s culture and traditions will be spotlighted during German Heritage Night Sept. 12 at Target Field in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n
That evening the Minnesota Twins take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Advance tickets for seats in a New Ulm section are available through the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce. Ticket prices range from $40 to $100 for a full package that includes the cost of a round-trip bus ride.<\/p>\n
Pre-game festivities begin at 5:10 p.m. at Gate 6, where New Ulm will host live polka music, photo opportunities and appearances by crowd favorites Hermann the German and The Narren. On-field highlights include an honorary first pitch thrown by Hermann the German to Brian Raabe, a New Ulm native and former Twins infielder who debuted in the major leagues in 1995.<\/p>\n
Singing Hills Chorus seeking duets<\/p>\n
New sessions of singing practice begin soon for a chorus comprised of people who’ve been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and their family members or friends.<\/p>\n
Singing Hills Chorus, a program of Mankato and North Mankato ACT on Alzheimer’s, will start its fall session Sept. 4.<\/p>\n
New “singing duets” are invited to join the chorus. No singing experience is required. Volunteer singers are available to provide support during the rehearsal.\u00a0Kristin Ziemke is Singing Hills’ music director.<\/p>\n
The fall theme is \u201cA World of Music\u201d and features songs such as “Top of the World,” “Marshmallow World” and “What a Wonderful World.” Rehearsals are slated Thursday mornings Sept. 4 through January\u00a0at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 105 Hosanna Drive.\u00a0Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. and rehearsals are slated 10-11:30 a.m. The $25 fee includes a music book and practice CD.<\/p>\n
The choir’s season will conclude with a concert 1 p.m. Jan. 10.<\/p>\n
Singing Hills Chorus is a longtime member of the Giving Voice Network, which now has over 10 choruses across Minnesota and more than 50 others throughout the country.\u00a0This choral program leverages peer-reviewed research in neuroscience and music therapy to stimulate cognition, support emotional well-being, and promote social connection in people with living with Alzheimer\u2019s and related dementias and their care partners.<\/p>\n
