DETROIT — Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Meadows has been on the injured list since July 28 with a strained quadriceps.<\/p>\n
The news was not as encouraging for veteran right-hander Alex Cobb, who was pulled off his rehab on Tuesday and will now pause for seven days before restarting. The chances of him pitching for the Tigers in 2025 appear to be dwindling. <\/p>\n
Meadows, 25, missed the first two months of the season after suffering a nerve injury in spring training. He struggled to get on track offensively after his return, hitting .200 with a .566 OPS (59 OPS+) in 137 plate appearances.<\/p>\n
After a slow start, Meadows finished the 2024 season by\u00a0hitting .299 with an .857 OPS over his final 213 plate appearances<\/a>\u00a0while playing outstanding defense.<\/p>\n Meadows was\u00a0expected to be the Tigers\u2019 everyday center fielder in 2025<\/a>, but the club was forced to cycle through backup plans after injuries to Matt Vierling and Wenceel P\u00e9rez, along with subpar production from Ryan Kreidler. Former shortstop Javier B\u00e1ez eventually became the everyday center fielder and was even voted in as an All-Star starter by fans.<\/p>\n Cobb, 37, signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Tigers last December<\/a> but has yet to pitch in a big-league game as he\u2019s battled pain and received injections in both hips.<\/p>\n Cobb has thrown 19 innings in multiple rehab assignments with Toledo and High-A West Michigan. He has a 2.75 ERA, striking out 24 and walking 12 in 19 2\/3 innings. <\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think I can define success as anything other than me giving every last bit I have to the organization, and the commitment they made to me, and me giving that same commitment back to them,\u201d Cobb said last month<\/a>. \u201cIf that means pitching scoreless innings late in September and into October, great.
