Darvish mixed up his arsenal, and leading with his fastball and slider gave him plenty of opportunities for the swing and miss. It is not likely that Darvish makes many more rehab appearances, with his recovery from this game determining the next step for the veteran right-hander. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=morgan011dav,morgan012dav&amp;search=David+Morgan&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">David Morgan<\/a> tossed a scoreless inning in the game, striking out one, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=chirin000har&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Harold Chirino<\/a> continued to find his form with another scoreless inning, striking out two.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-131650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Darvish-Yu-5-14-25-450x450.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\"  \/>Graphic by Thomas Nestico (@TJStats)<\/p>\n<p>Tirso Ornelas had two base hits in the game, driving in two runs. The Tijuana native has yet to rediscover his slug in his return to the minors, but he could be working on some mechanical adjustments at the plate after a rough first cup of coffee in the Majors. Clay Dungan had three doubles against three different pitchers in the game, and has been raking at the plate this month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gonzaos01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Oscar Gonzalez<\/a> slugged his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh against former Dodger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/florody01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dylan Floro<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brossmi01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mike Brosseau<\/a> had two hits in the game as well, and the team went 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>San Antonio Missions (Lost 6-0 vs Midland) (17-18 on the season)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=castan001mar&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Marcos Castanon<\/a> \u2013 2-for-4, Two Singles<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=valenz001bra&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brandon Valenzuela<\/a> \u2013 2-for-4, Two Singles<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=lizarr000vic&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Victor Lizarraga<\/a> \u2013 3.1 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 3 K (80 pitches \u2013 42 strikes)<\/p>\n<p>Victor Lizarraga was again unable to escape the fourth inning, surrendering six runs on six hits in 3.1 innings of work. His fastball velocity is down from last season, and it is significantly affecting his performance. Sitting at 90-92 mph, his heater doesn\u2019t have the same smoke it did last season, which lets batters sit back and wait for a mistake pitch. Lizarraga has a 9.47 ERA in 25.2 IP this season, and he could be needing something of a reset, be it mental or mechanical, to rediscover the form that had him dominating in the second half of 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Marcos Castanon continues to provide the Missions with a consistent bat regardless of where he bats in the lineup. Facing surging left-hander <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=jump--000gag&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gage Jump<\/a>, Castanon singled twice out of the leadoff spot. Brandon Valenzuela had two base hits of his own out of the number two spot in the lineup. The twosome of Castanon and Valenzuela has been on fire at the plate over the month of May, with Valenzuela finding his footing at the plate. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=murphy000kai&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kai Murphy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=reyes-000rip&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ripken Reyes<\/a> each had a base hit, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=robert000cod&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cody Roberts<\/a> reached base twice on a single and a walk. Ethan Long had a single, and Braedon Karpathios had two singles in the game. It was yet another multi-hit game for the Pennsylvania native, who is coming off a strong slate vs South Bend. The offense had minimal chances with runners in scoring position, finishing 0-for-3 with three stranded runners.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clark Candiotti could not find his command in the early going, throwing 35 pitches in the first inning and failing to leave the inning. It was one of those games, as Tigers top prospect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=clark-003max,clark-004max,clark-005max&amp;search=Max+Clark&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=eastvillagetimes.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-05-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Max Clark<\/a> greeted Candiotti with a towering solo home run. Candiotti allowed three more runs in the first inning, chased from the game after just two outs.
