The Texas Rangers scored nine runs while the Northern California Athletics scored six runs.<\/p>\n
Despite everything, the Rangers suddenly can\u2019t stop winning.<\/p>\n
Granted, today\u2019s game was Jacob deGrom against the homeless A\u2019s so a win was expected. However, we\u2019ve learned the hard way to never make assumptions about the 2025 Texas Rangers.<\/p>\n
Maybe that works both ways. Just when it seemed like the Rangers were dead and buried, and with half the team suddenly hitting the IL, they\u2019ve rattled off five wins in a row and now enter September within sit-up-and-take-notice distance of a Wild Card spot.<\/p>\n
To complete the sweep today against the Athletics, the Rangers scored in six of the nine separate innings while making use of nine hits and seven walks to plate their nine runs.<\/p>\n
Texas was even pretty merciful as deGrom was lifted at just 79 pitches despite his five innings of shutout baseball. Still, with the Rangers up early and then up big and cruising, there wasn\u2019t a need to extend deGrom when he\u2019s already likely exceeded the number of innings expected from him this season.<\/p>\n
The final score makes the game look closer than it actually was as Caleb Boushley couldn\u2019t get outs despite an 8-0 lead in the eighth inning. If there\u2019s one annoyance from this one, it would be the fact that too many important arms were needed to get the final handful of outs in what should have been an easy blowout win.<\/p>\n
Player of the Game: deGrom was able to take the foot off the gas a little almost immediately as Joc Pederson hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give Texas the early lead. Pederson eventually added another hit and another RBI to his total for the day, as well.<\/p>\n
Josh Jung also homered and doubled while driving in a couple of runs to stay hot of late. There was also Josh Smith who had been kind of MIA in the recent upturn from the lineup. Today, however, the leadoff man reached in all five appearances with two hits and three walks. He also doubled and scored twice.<\/p>\n
