<\/p>\nInstead of crushing home runs with Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, former New York Yankees bust Joey Gallo could pitch to them instead.<\/p>\n
Gallo, a two-time All-Star outfielder with the Texas Rangers known for his home run-or-bust approach, announced earlier this year he was converting to pitcher. The lowly Chicago White Sox released Gallo in March following a 2-for-20 stint.<\/p>\n

Talk is cheap, but video proof is another. The official Major League Baseball X (formerly Twitter) account shared a clip Friday of the 31-year-old throwing four pitches in a controlled environment.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s only one problem: Gallo failed to hit the strike zone in two of the four pitches.<\/p>\n
\u201cERA about to be higher than his batting average,\u201d one X user quipped. Gallo owns a lifetime .194 average.<\/p>\n
Added another: \u201cI know I don\u2019t know [expletive], but I\u2019m pretty sure his arm and body are out of sync. Lose a lot of velo doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gallo wouldn\u2019t be the first hitter-turned-pitcher in recent memory. Tyler Naquin spent eight years as an outfielder before joining the Cleveland Guardians as a pitcher this spring.<\/p>\n

Another former outfielder, Anthony Gose, played five years in the majors and even started 125 games for the 2015 Detroit Tigers. Gose eventually transitioned to the mound, going 3-0 with a 4.78 ERA over 31 games for the Guardians from 2021-24.<\/p>\n

\u201c10 bucks says he could already strike himself out,\u201d one user joked.<\/p>\n
Others, though, tried staying optimistic. Gallo won two Gold Gloves and frequently displayed a brilliant arm before moving to first base.<\/p>\n
\u201cWould be so cool if he makes it as a pitcher,\u201d read one post.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Doesn\u2019t] look half bad,\u201d another wrote. \u201cDefinitely has work to do, especially that command. Based on this right here, [I] think he might have a shot.\u201d<\/p>\n
