{"id":297946,"date":"2025-09-07T03:05:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T03:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/297946\/"},"modified":"2025-09-07T03:05:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T03:05:11","slug":"chicago-white-sox-limited-to-3-hits-in-6-0-loss-to-detroit-tigers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/297946\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicago White Sox limited to 3 hits in 6-0 loss to Detroit Tigers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DETROIT \u2014 Chase Meidroth led off Saturday\u2019s game against the Detroit Tigers by drawing a walk against ace Tarik Skubal.<\/p>\n<p>Meidroth was quickly erased when Edgar Quero grounded into a double play.<\/p>\n<p>The Chicago White Sox wouldn\u2019t have another baserunner until the fifth, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2025\/09\/02\/chicago-white-sox-minnesota-twins-bryan-ramos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">third baseman Bryan Ramos<\/a> blooped a double to left field to end Skubal\u2019s no-hit bid.<\/p>\n<p>The Sox were limited to three hits \u2014 the double by Ramos and two Meidroth singles \u2014 as their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2025\/09\/05\/chicago-white-sox-detroit-tigers-shane-smith-kyle-teel-collision\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">season-high six-game winning streak<\/a> came to an end with a 6-0 loss to the Tigers in front of 32,115 at Comerica Park.<\/p>\n<p>Skubal allowed two hits, struck out six and walked one in seven innings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA tough assignment tonight, obviously,\u201d Sox manager Will Venable said. \u201cArguably the best pitcher on the planet and we knew we had our work cut out for us tonight. Want to be aggressive early in the count.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wasn\u2019t in the zone as much early as you typically see him. Obviously a good fastball, I thought the changeup was really good. Yeah, he just really dominated us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Skubal received offensive support early when Jahmai Jones led off the bottom of the first with a home run to left against Mart\u00edn P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers broke the game open with five runs in the fourth inning. Gleyber Torres had the big hit, connecting for a three-run home run to left.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMart\u00edn, I thought there was some hard contact there early,\u201d Venable said. \u201cObviously the leadoff homer, but some hard contact. I think that pushed him to the edges a little bit and he just didn\u2019t have the command to be efficient in the zone and on the edges and we saw a lot of balls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just not used to that with Mart\u00edn. He\u2019s in the zone all the time, pitching to the corners. The north and south game. He walked three and did not record a strikeout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was not hitting my spot,\u201d P\u00e9rez said. \u201cTrying to live with my changeup down and away too many times. I think it was two pitches, both homers, but they made a lot of hard contact. I think I\u2019ve got to be better with my location next time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I\u2019ve been doing good, but it happens. Sometimes you\u2019re not going to feel 100% or you\u2019re not going to hit your spot and that happened to me. But that\u2019s OK. I\u2019m just going to turn the page and be ready for the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers had just one hit over the final four innings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Reliever) Wikelman (Gonz\u00e1lez), that might be the best outing we\u2019ve seen from Wikelman (five strikeouts in two innings),\u201d Venable said. \u201cAnd we\u2019ve seen some good ones from him. Steven Wilson was great, Dan (Altavilla) was great. A really nice job by all those guys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Venable also noted the defensive contributions from outfielders Brooks Baldwin, Michael A. (Duane Burleson\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>The Sox were cooled off at the plate by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2024\/11\/20\/chris-sale-tarik-skubal-cy-young-award\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2024 American League Cy Young Award winner<\/a>, who is in contention for the honor again this season.<\/p>\n<p>Skubal struck out two of the three batters he faced in the fourth and struck out Colson Montgomery to begin the fifth. Curtis Mead grounded out back to the pitcher, bringing Ramos to the plate with two outs.<\/p>\n<p>Ramos grounded out to shortstop Zach McKinstry in the second inning. He kept that in mind in the fifth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was thinking about being aggressive,\u201d Ramos said. \u201cMy first at-bat, he threw me a fastball in the zone (on 0-2, which was fouled off) and I said if he throws it again, I\u2019m going to wait for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He got a changeup instead on the first pitch and looped it to left for the team\u2019s first hit.<\/p>\n<p>Meidroth singled against Skubal in the sixth.
