ARLINGTON \u2014 Need some coverage in the bullpen<\/a>? Why not try the guy who hasn\u2019t allowed a run all season?<\/p>\n

The Rangers<\/a> recalled right-handed pitcher Cole Winn from Triple-A Round Rock prior to Thursday\u2019s series opener vs. the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field and, in a corresponding move, optioned right-hander Caleb Boushley. <\/p>\n

Boushley, a 31-year-old who parlayed a decent spring training into an extended stay in the organization, threw 2 1\/3 innings out of the bullpen in Wednesday\u2019s win vs. the Colorado Rockies. It left the Rangers\u2019 bullpen thin to start the series vs. the Astros as two high-leverage arms \u2014 closer Luke Jackson<\/a> and setup man Chris Martin<\/a> \u2014 continue to recover from injuries. <\/p>\n

Jackson hasn\u2019t pitched since his throwing hand was hit by a 111.2-mph line drive in Monday\u2019s win vs. the Colorado Rockies. His MRIs came back negative, but there was significant swelling at the point of impact on the top of his hand. Martin exited Tuesday\u2019s game with elbow tightness and reported a couple of \u201cpops\u201d when he threw. He didn\u2019t pitch Wednesday, but as he walked back into the Rangers\u2019 clubhouse Thursday afternoon, he said that everything was \u201cpositive.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that a trip to the injured list for either remains a possibility, but he hopes that the team can avoid it. <\/p>\n

\u201cI checked with them during the pitcher\u2019s meeting,\u201d Bochy said Thursday afternoon. \u201cThey both want to throw. We\u2019ll see where we\u2019re at.\u201d <\/p>\n

Winn, 25, has not yet allowed a run in 23 1\/3 relief innings pitched at Round Rock. The Rangers selected Winn in the first round of the 2018 draft and, after four years of development as a starting pitcher, shifted him into a relief role midway through the 2023 season. He made his major league debut last season<\/a> and has a 7.79 ERA in 13 big league games. <\/p>\n
