Michael Helman leads Rangers to win over Brewers

The Texas Rangers scored five runs while the Milwaukee Brewers scored four runs.

It’s a Michael Helman Indian summer.

After the Rangers took a scant 1-0 early lead, and with Jack Leiter dealing, it seemed like perhaps Texas had the makings of another win over MLB’s top club in the bag. But these Rangers live in a perpetual miasma of adversity. After an extended two-out rally by the Brew Crew in the fifth which ended Leiter’s outing prematurely, Texas suddenly trailed 3-1 and no one would blame you for thinking, “ah, well, it is the nearly 90 win Brewers and the anonymous Rangers. It’s to be expected.”

But Helman wasn’t having it. In the next half inning, the Rangers hit for the cycle as a team. Importantly Jonah Heim walked to send No. 9 hitter Helman to the plate where he homered — his second in two games against Milwaukee after last night’s grand slam — to tie the game.

Inspired by our September GOAT, Josh Smith singled, Wyatt Langford tripled to give Texas the lead, and then Kyle Higashioka hit a pinch hit double to provide some insurance.

Up 5-3 heading into the late innings, the Rangers got 4.1 innings of one-run ball from a quintet of relievers (Hoby Milner, Luis Curvelo, Robert Garcia, Phil Maton, and Shawn Armstrong) to close out the victory and guarantee a series win at minimum for Texas.

Meanwhile, up north, the Blue Jays rallied against the Astros so the Rangers now trail Houston by just 2.5 games in the AL West.

Aaron Judge? Cal Raleigh? Never heard of ’em. Give the MVP to Michael Helman.

Up Next: The Rangers have an opportunity to sweep the Brewers tomorrow with RHP Merrill Kelly on the mound for Texas against RHP Freddy Peralta for Milwaukee.

The Wednesday afternoon first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 1:35 pm CT and will be shown on the Rangers Sports Network.

The Texas Rangers scored five runs while the Milwaukee Brewers scored four runs.
