SAN ANTONIO – The Uvalde Police Department confirms they are investigating the recent death of a staff member of U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales\u2019s office, along with the Texas Rangers.<\/p>\n

Regina Santos-Aviles, a Uvalde resident, passed away over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Uvalde Police were called to Santos-Aviles’ home around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Chief Mario Rangel, firefighters responded to reports of a victim on fire at Santos-Aviles’ home. The call was reportedly cancelled because the fire was put out, though crews responded anyway — only to find EMS already working to help Santos-Aviles.<\/p>\n

Records show she was then transported to the hospital. The Bexar County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office reports that she died at 6:34 a.m. on Sunday. No official cause or manner of death has been released.<\/p>\n

Santos-Aviles joined Gonzales\u2019s team in November 2021 as Regional District Director. She previously worked for the Uvalde Area Chamber of Commerce and the Uvalde County Fairplex, according to her Linkedin page<\/a>. <\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Congressman Tony Gonzales released a statement on her death, praising Regina for her work and commitment to her community.<\/p>\n

We are all heart-stricken by the recent news. Regina devoted her profession toward making a difference in her community. She will always be remembered for her passion towards Uvalde and helping the community become a better place, said Congressman Gonzales.<\/p>\n

The Uvalde Police Department, working with the Texas Rangers, is looking into the circumstances surrounding Santos-Aviles\u2019s death. <\/p>\n

Officials say they\u2019re coordinating closely with her family, who are cooperating fully, and so far, there\u2019s no sign of foul play.<\/p>\n

Chief Homer Delgado notes that all unattended deaths are routinely examined. <\/p>\n

In times of loss, our greatest duty is to stand together, support one another, and honor the memory of those we have lost,\u201d said Uvalde Chief of Police Homer Delgado. “Out of respect for the family, no additional details will be released at this time. <\/p>\n

We are working to get a statement from the Texas Rangers. <\/p>\n
