<\/p>\nAfter losing two games in their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays will remain at home and take on the Detroit Tigers, who own the best record in the AL. This is Toronto’s first series against the Rays this season.<\/p>\n
The Blue Jays, who are 5-5 in their last 10 games, are currently four games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East standings. They are tied with the Boston Red Sox for second place in the division, and they will look to inch closer to the top of the standings in their upcoming series against Detroit.<\/p>\n

Ahead of their game against the Tigers on Friday night, Blue Jays manager John Schneider made an announcement regarding Anthony Santander that could have an impact on the series.<\/p>\n

After eight years with the Baltimore Orioles, Santander joined the Blue Jays as a free agent back in January. The outfielder is struggling in his first season in Toronto, however, as he is hitting .187 with an OPS of .582.<\/p>\n
Santander has appeared in 39 games for the Blue Jays this season, but according to Schneider, he will sit out on Friday night against the Tigers to let his “mind rest for 24 hours.”<\/p>\n
“Sometimes, I think it\u2019s beneficial for guys to stop thinking and let your mind rest for 24 hours,” Schneider said about removing Santander from the lineup on Friday night.<\/p>\n
Last season, Santander was named an All-Star, earned MVP votes, and won a Silver Slugger award. Hopefully for him and the Blue Jays, this quick break will allow him to turn things around and at least partially return to last year’s form.<\/p>\n
