{"id":328344,"date":"2025-09-20T08:32:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T08:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/328344\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T08:32:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T08:32:11","slug":"yankees-will-warrens-solid-start-undone-by-embarrassing-error","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/328344\/","title":{"rendered":"Yankees&#8217; Will Warren&#8217;s solid start undone by &#8217;embarrassing&#8217; error"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALTIMORE \u2014 Will Warren bounced back well from a rough outing against the Red Sox his last time out.<\/p>\n<p>But it was the bouncer that got through his legs in the sixth inning Friday night that will stick with him the most.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/19\/sports\/yankees-shut-down-by-trevor-rogers-in-loss-to-orioles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a 4-2 loss to the Orioles<\/a> at Camden Yards, Warren was left ruing the play that he could not make, the first of back-to-back errors that cost the Yankees a pair of runs that proved to be the difference.<\/p>\n<p>Warren had given up just one run through five innings when he jammed Jordan Westburg with a pitch to lead off the sixth inning. <\/p>\n<p>It turned into a broken-bat comebacker to the mound that Warren bent over to field, only for the ball to bounce through his legs after appearing to take a tough bounce.<\/p>\n<p>The bat shard flying his way was on his mind, Warren said, but he did not want to use that as an excuse, calling it \u201cembarrassing\u201d and \u201cprobably the worst play I\u2019ve ever made in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, yeah, I looked up and the ball had spin on it,\u201d Warren said. \u201cBut at the end of the day, I\u2019ve caught ground balls a thousand times before, so I got to make that play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely was a little hard on myself, especially not making that play. Basically gifted them a run. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>But the young right-hander bounced back respectably, giving up three runs (one earned) across 5 \u00b9\/\u2083 innings. The only earned run came in the second inning, when Ryan Mountcastle took him deep for a 422-foot home run, marking the sixth straight game in which Warren has given up a home run.<\/p>\n<p>After Max Fried p<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/18\/sports\/max-fried-has-best-start-of-season-as-yankees-drub-orioles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">icked up his 18th win of the season on Thursday night<\/a>, Carlos Rod\u00f3n will go for his 17th on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Including Saturday, Rod\u00f3n will have two more starts this season, giving him a chance to match Fried at 18 wins. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.54449472;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37164648\" width=\"911\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Carlos-Rodon-1.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos Rod\u00f3n will be going for his 17th win of the season on Saturday.\" class=\"wp-image-37164648\"  \/>Carlos Rod\u00f3n will be going for his 17th win of the season on Saturday. In the expansion era (since 1961), there have been six pairs of Yankees teammates to hit that threshold in the same season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Austin Slater got the start in left field against Orioles lefty Trevor Rogers, going 1-for-4 with three strikeouts.
