Garrett Crochet, Roman Anthony, Alex Bregman and, in a round-about way, Rafael Devers, all made sure of that. But the mere fact that, after coming to the Sox as a castoff from the worst team of all-time, Romy Gonzalez became one of the biggest storylines of the season is pretty remarkable in and of itself. That’s what happens when a lefty-masher learns how to put up league average numbers against righties. (Tim Healey, Boston Globe)

2025 may also be remembered as the first time we got a look at Payton Tolle and Connelly Early, two guys who, hopefully, will become mainstays in the Red Sox rotation for years to come. How did the rest of the crop of pitching prospects do? Alex Speier takes a look. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)

But it’s the big league club we’re focused on today, and for how many more days this season lasts. And while things look good for the Sox postseason hopes, there are some troubling things on the field going on, including one thing we didn’t think we didn’t think we’d need to worry about: Trevor Story’s defense. He has made five throwing errors over the last seven games (and six errors overall) and while it’s way too soon to start talking about the yips, its definitely not good. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)

Speaking of guys who have trouble throwing the baseball, Dustin May will throw live batting practice today as he continues to battle against elbow neuritis. He’ll obviously have to prove that he’s healthy before the Sox make the call on whether they want him on the postseason roster at all. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)

Of course, every time we mention postseason planning, we have to add the caveat that the Red Sox have not yet technically clinched their postseason berth. Judging by the big names who traveled to Toronto last night, though, it certainly looks like they were ready to party. (Rob Bradford, WEEI)

But that’s fine: it’s more fun to clinch at home, anyway. “It will probably be better at home when we can do it in front of our fans and with our families and not rush home [from Toronto] at three or four in the morning,” says Trevor Story. (Ian Browne, MLB.com)

And if you need a fancy simulator to track the Red Sox playoff chase, the Globe has you covered. You don’t actually need one though. All you need to know is that the Sox are in if they win. (Daigo Fujiwara-Smith, Boston Globe)

Playoff-clinching games are self-evidently fun. What’s not fun, though, is that tonight’s game is on Apple TV+ once again. But while you may think it’s lame that so many fans won’t get to watch such a big game, remember what baseball is actually about: corporate partnerships. Because tonight’s game is going to be used primarily to sell iPhones, which will take some of the broadcast footage. (David Adler, MLB.com)

[2375
72,48605,5,141,23888,48,2542,15558,36543,126,922,15555,4,3973,863,89,2543,793,1083,282,1035
0":"post-343202","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-boston-red-sox","8":"tag-alex-bregman","9":"tag-alex-speier","10":"tag-baseball","11":"tag-boston","12":"tag-boston-globe","13":"tag-boston-red-sox","14":"tag-bostonredsox","15":"tag-christopher-smith","16":"tag-connelly-early","17":"tag-dustin-may","18":"tag-garrett-crochet","19":"tag-masslive","20":"tag-mlb","21":"tag-payton-tolle","22":"tag-rafael-devers","23":"tag-red-sox","24":"tag-redsox","25":"tag-roman-anthony","26":"tag-romy-gonzalez","27":"tag-toronto","28":"tag-trevor-story
["GET
