\n\tHappy birthday,\u00a0Andre David<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHappy 67th birthday to former Twin Andre David who homered off Hall of Famer\u00a0Jack Morris<\/a>\u00a0on his\u00a0very first\u00a0major-league swing as a 26-year-old rookie in 1984. Unfortunately, it was the only home run of his career.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHappy birthday, Rich Garc\u00e9s<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHappy 54th birthday to former Twins reliever\u00a0Rich Garc\u00e9s. Back in 1990, he became the most recent of only eight teenagers to play for Minnesota. In just his second MLB game, he became the only teenager in Twins history to record a save.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPrior to\u00a0Garc\u00e9s, the last teenager to play for the Twins was\u00a0Bert Blyleven<\/a>\u00a0way back in 1970.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOTD in 1969: Rod Carew<\/a>\u00a0steals second, third, and home in the same inning\n<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the\u00a0Billy Martin-managed Twins down 2-0 in Detroit,\u00a0C\u00e9sar Tovar<\/a>\u00a0singled off\u00a0Mickey Lolich<\/a>\u00a0leading off the bottom of the third. Then, with Carew up to bat, Tovar was balked to second and then stole third. Perhaps distracted by Tovar, Lolich walked Carew. Then, with\u00a0Harmon Killebrew<\/a>\u00a0at the plate, the Twins executed a double steal, with Carew swiping second and Tovar taking home on the throw. Carew then stole third and home to tie the game. (Killebrew wound up striking out.)\n<\/p>\n

\n\tCarew was the only player to steal second, third, and home consecutively during the 1960s.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n\tSt. Paul native\u00a0Paul Molitor<\/a>\u00a0accomplished the feat in the first inning of a game against Oakland on July 26, 1987.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe most recent player to do so was\u00a0Elly De La Cruz<\/a>\u00a0on July 8, 2023.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOTD in 2021:\u00a0Miguel San\u00f3<\/a> hits three home runs\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMiguel San\u00f3 hit three home runs with four RBI in a 5-4 win over the White Sox at Target Field on this date in 2021.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the Twins’ first 55 seasons in Minnesota, there were only four 3-HR games (Allison, Killebrew, Oliva, and Morneau). There were\u00a0NINE\u00a03-HR games over six years from 2016 to 2021 (Kepler x2, Rosario, Dozier, Buxton, Cruz x2, and\u00a0San\u00f3).\n<\/p>\n

\n\t\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOTD in 1865:\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBaseball has a\u00a0long\u00a0history here in Minnesota. One hundred and sixty years ago today\u2014just a month after the end of the Civil War\u2014the North Star Base Ball Club of St. Paul beat the Excelsior Club of Fort Snelling 38-14.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
