Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto started off the 2025 postseason by proving age is just a number.<\/p>\n

In the bottom of the 2nd inning with two runners on, the Phillies’ catcher ripped a ball into the outfield that dribbled into the warning track. It brought home both runners, put Realmuto at third base, and gave Philadelphia an early lead.<\/p>\n

The cherry on top? The triple made MLB postseason history.<\/p>\n

Per Sarah Langs, Realmuto, 34, is the 3rd-oldest catcher with a triple in playoff history. Gabby Hartnett is the oldest ever with a triple when he was 37 back in 1938.<\/p>\n

Realmuto, who had 129 hits in 134 games this season, is a key veteran on this Phillies roster. He’s been through different iterations of this team since joining Philadelphia in 2019.<\/p>\n

By getting the offense jumpstarted with an RBI triple off Shohei Ohtani, Realmuto set the tone for what will be a challenging series for the Phillies.<\/p>\n

It’s a great sign for the team and a nice personal achievement for the veteran catcher to begin a new postseason.<\/p>\n
