Alejandro Kirk used his first swing to show that his bat remained as hot as ever.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Both sluggers went deep Saturday to power Toronto\u2019s 14-hit attack as the Blue Jays blew out the New York Yankees 10-1 in Game 1 of their American League Division Series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it just solidified that we\u2019re here for a reason,\u201d said Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes, who had a two-run double in Toronto\u2019s four-run seventh inning.<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero set the tone with a first-inning blast off Yankees starter Luis Gil (0-1). Kirk, who had two homers in the regular-season finale last Sunday, followed an inning later with a first-pitch solo shot.<\/p>\n<p>Kirk added another solo blast in Toronto\u2019s four-run eighth inning. Gausman got Ben Rice on an infield fly and Varland struck out Giancarlo Stanton with a 100.7-m.p.h. fastball to escape the jam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn that situation, you needed 100 versus a guy who\u2019s had a storied post-season career in Stanton,\u201d Schneider said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Sports<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Gausman, meanwhile, threw a first-pitch strike to 17 of the 22 batters he faced. New York used five relievers over the next 5 1\/3 frames.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees were coming off a wild-card series win over the Boston Red Sox that went the three-game distance.<\/p>\n<p>The teams released their 26-man series rosters before the game. Toronto shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) was not on the list and veteran pitchers Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt were not selected.<\/p>\n<p>Rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage (1-0, 3.21 earned-run average) will make his fourth career big-league start for Toronto in Game 2. The Yankees will counter with Max Fried (19-5, 2.86).<\/p>\n<p>The best-of-five series will shift to New York for Game 3 on Tuesday night. If necessary, the Yankees would host Game 4 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>If it goes the distance, the series would return to Toronto for Game 5 on Friday.
