The Cubs and White Sox met in the finale of their three game series at Wrigley Field Sunday afternoon. The North Soders turned on the offense in the middle innings and pulled away to finish the sweep.<\/p>\n
They grabbed the lead against starter Jonathan Cannon<\/a> in the opening inning when Pete Crow-Armstrong<\/a> tripled and came in to score on a Seiya Suzuki<\/a> sacrifice fly. The Sox evened things when Miguel Vargas<\/a> took Colin Rea<\/a> deep for a solo shot in the 4th.<\/p>\n Crow-Armstrong doubled in the 6th inning and Vidal Bruj\u00e1n<\/a> used a nifty slide at the plate to score the go-ahead run after an ill-advised throw to second base. Suzuki added a second sac fly and Michael Busch<\/a> singled home another to give the Cubs 4-1 advantage at the end of the frame.<\/p>\n Bruj\u00e1n had an RBI single in the 7th and Nico Hoerner<\/a> hit a run-scoring double in the 8th to increase the margin to 6-1. The bullpen allowed just one run and the home team sealed the sweep 6-2. (Box score<\/a>)<\/p>\n Key Moment<\/p>\n The Cubs\u2019 aggressive baserunning paid off in the 6th inning to create the winning run. They also added a pair of insurance tallies to establish a really solid lead.<\/p>\n Why the Cubs Won<\/p>\n Excellent pitching and one big inning on offense was the winning formula for another game in this series.<\/p>\n Stats That Matter<\/p>\n Rea didn\u2019t have his best stuff on Sunday, but he certainly made it work: 5.1 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 3 K, 2 BB.Bruj\u00e1n had his first two-hit game in a Cubs uniform.Busch also had a couple of knocks in this one.PCA had two more extra-base hits to close out a massive series.<\/p>\n Bottom Line<\/p>\n The Cubs finally got another sweep, which is very nice to see after several missed opportunities. So far they have been taking care of business against the softer portion of their schedule. That is what good teams do when they are facing weaker competition.
