As the Texas Rangers<\/a> attempt to jump start their long-dormant offense, they will get a critical piece back.<\/p>\n

President of Baseball Operations Chris Young said Monday during a short briefing with media on the club\u2019s offensive issues that Carter would join the team in Boston. <\/p>\n

Carter, a key cog in the stretch and postseason drive in 2023, has been at Triple-A Round Rock<\/a> for the first month of the season, working on a swing change that would make it easier for him to deal with his chronic back issue<\/a>. Essentially, the Rangers tried to get him to open up his stance a little bit. <\/p>\n

Carter, 22, has hit .284\/.351\/.577\/.928 over his last 14 games in a three-week time span. He has played more regularly, too. He appeared in five of Round Rock\u2019s six games in the just-completed week. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe has really checked the boxes that we wanted to see there,\u201d Young said. \u201cWe think that he\u2019ll add something in our lineup that maybe we\u2019ve missed a little bit of being able to work the count, get on base in a different manner, via walk and show the level of patience he can.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is likely that Carter will take Leody Taveras\u2019 spot on the active roster either Tuesday or Wednesday. <\/p>\n

Carter has hit mostly leadoff at Round Rock and was thought to be leadoff alternative to Marcus Semien heading into spring training. It\u2019s uncertain if the Rangers would put him right into the leadoff spot or would try to work him in from a lower spot in the order. If he hits ninth, he could help \u201cturn\u201d the lineup over after the first inning, but it would also give the Rangers a stretch of three lefties in a four-hitter span (Carter, current leadoff man Josh Smith and Corey Seager). Against right-handed starters, that would be favorable, but could create some matchup issues later i the game against bullpens. <\/p>\n

In addition, outfielder Alejandro Osuna, who has been tearing up Double-A pitching for the last month, could also be on the move to Triple-A Round Rock in the near future. Osuna went to Frisco to start the season so that both he and Carter could be playing center field regularly. Osuna, 22, is hitting .316 for the season, but enters the week with a 16-game hitting streak, during which he is slashing .393\/.451\/.541\/.942.<\/p>\n

Taveras is currently on outright waivers and could either be claimed by Tuesday evening or be outrighted off the 40-man roster and sent to Round Rock. <\/p>\n
