Despite holding second place in the American League East, the Toronto Blue Jays haven’t performed up to expectations this season.<\/p>\n

Through 44 games, they sit a few games below .500, and questions are beginning to surface about the team’s overall direction moving forward.<\/p>\n

Where would the Toronto Blue Jays be without George Springer this season?<\/p>\n

Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com recently highlighted George Springer’s<\/a> resurgence as a rare bright spot for a Blue Jays team that has largely underperformed this season.<\/p>\n

While the club has struggled to find consistency, Springer’s bounce-back play has offered a much-needed spark amid an otherwise middling campaign, writes Nick Ziegler from the Toronto Blue Jays On Si.<\/p>\n

\u00abComing off a pair of lackluster seasons, Springer has made some dramatic improvements in 2025, showing a more disciplined approach at the plate and hitting the ball with greater authority.\u00bb -Harrigan<\/p>\n

So far this season, Springer has posted a .271\/.380\/.474 slash line with five home runs and 18 RBI’s, a significant turnaround from last year’s disappointing performance, when he hit just .220\/.303\/.371.<\/p>\n

Compared to that, his current production marks a major improvement and has made him a much more impactful contributor to the Blue Jays’ offense.<\/p>\n

“Besides Springer, only Guererro has an OPS over .800, and their two notable offseason acquisitions in the lineup have underperformed.” -Ziegler<\/p>\n

Ziegler also writes that even though the Blue Jays currently sit in second place in the AL East, they need to take a realistic look at their postseason chances and overall trajectory heading into October.<\/p>\n

“While George Springer may not be viewed as the most attractive trade asset, especially with $25 million owed to him next season, his recent resurgence could make him a viable option for contending teams seeking an offensive boost at the trade deadline.” -Ziegler<\/p>\n

Without Springer’s resurgence, the Blue Jays’ offense, which has already struggled at times, would likely be in an even more difficult position.<\/p>\n
