Fielding Bible Award recipients<\/a>, which are presented annually by Sports Info Solutions and aim the honor the best defensive player in MLB at each position.<\/p>\nRafaela is a first-time Fielding Bible Award recipient and earned the honor as the game\u2019s top center fielder.<\/p>\n
According to SIS\u2019s website, the Fielding Bible Awards are voted on by a panel of experts \u201cwho consider statistical analysis, the eye test, and any other factors that they wish to utilize.\u201d The award dates back to 2006 and Rafaela is the third Red Sox outfielder to earn the honor, joining Mookie Betts and Wilyer Abreu, each of whom won for right field.<\/p>\n
Rafaela earned the nod after leading all MLB center fielders with 20 Defensive Runs Saved, and according to SIS\u2019s announcement his 27 Good Fielding Plays were the most of any center fielder. He also had the second-most Range Runs Saved and tied for the most Outfield Arm Runs Saved at his position.<\/p>\n
Beyond those metrics, Rafaela also graded as elite defensively in just about every category measured by Statcast. Rafaela ranked 99th percentile in Fielding Run Value and Outs Above Average, 97th percentile in Arm Strength and 92nd percentile in sprint speed.<\/p>\n
The other Fielding Bible Award recipients included Patrick Bailey (C, Giants), Matt Olson (1B, Braves), Nico Hoerner (2B, Cubs), Ke\u2019Bryan Hayes (3B, Reds), Mookie Betts (SS, Dodgers), Steven Kwan (LF, Guardians), Fernando Tatis Jr. (RF, Padres), Max Fried (P, Yankees), Ernie Clement (multi-position, Blue Jays).
