Even in enemy territory, \u201cSweet Caroline\u201d played as the Red Sox skipper crossed the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>Cora reflected on his marathon experience during <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MLBNetwork\/status\/1986484977052025331\" rel=\"nofollow\">Thursday\u2019s interview<\/a> on MLB Network\u2019s \u201cHot Stove.\u201d He recalled a friend saying he felt like Derek Jeter at a New York Yankees\u2019 World Series parade when finishing his first marathon, a sentiment Cora didn\u2019t fully share.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t feel like Derek, of course,\u201d Cora said. \u201cI felt like somebody important for the city of New York, at least for one day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cora said he trained throughout the Red Sox\u2019s season. He found out he was running five days after Boston\u2019s postseason exit and upped his preparation in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t ready to run the marathon,\u201d Cora admitted. \u201cWe made the playoffs, we get bounced, and I made a phone call a week later. It was October 7 when I got the bid. And I\u2019m like, \u2018I better get going.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>He credited the New York crowd for energizing him throughout the 26.2 miles. Cora is proud of himself for finishing the marathon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat an experience,\u201d Cora said. \u201cI know how electric New York is. Their fanbase, all of that, playing in Yankee Stadium. But from mile one all the way to the last one, they carry you. It was a fun day. It made me better, it made us better. I\u2019m in awe and have the utmost respect to all the marathoners because it\u2019s not easy to do. It\u2019s one thing I\u2019d never thought I would do, and I did it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"nesn-in-content-ad__copy\">Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Despite that vibrant atmosphere, Cora conceded that some Yankees fans heckled him as he ran across the five boroughs. The 50-year-old didn\u2019t mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t care. I really didn\u2019t,\u201d Cora said. \u201cThey got bragging rights, right?
