{"id":419328,"date":"2025-11-06T20:54:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T20:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/419328\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T20:54:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T20:54:14","slug":"don-mattingly-reveals-why-he-left-blue-jays-after-world-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/419328\/","title":{"rendered":"Don Mattingly reveals why he left Blue Jays after World Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Don Mattingly knew his time in Toronto was coming to an end months ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance at MLB\u2019s flagship store in Manhattan for a Gold Glove meet-and-greet, Mattingly sounded off on <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/06\/sports\/don-mattingly-leaving-blue-jays-after-world-series-heartbreak\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his departure from the Blue Jays<\/a>, revealing that he was \u201cclose to that decision before the season even started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKinda had a pretty good feeling this was gonna be my last season in Toronto,\u201d Mattingly said. \u201c\u2026 Had a great time there, the organization has been tremendous. The fans there are tremendous. It\u2019s been a great run. But, before the year started, I felt like this was kind of the end with Toronto. AP<\/p>\n<p>While The Post reported Thursday that Mattingly is willing to return to the dugout in the right situation, the former Yankees great has the \u201cbalancing act\u201d of baseball travel and family on his mind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I talk about it right now, I\u2019m like, \u2018the last thing I wanna do is be on the road,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cBut you never know how you feel in a month from now or whatever. So kind of those are the things I wrestle with. This is really that balancing act of family and still being a part of the game, which, I still like what I\u2019m doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mattingly, who has 12 years of managerial experience with the Dodgers and Marlins, is open to becoming a skipper again, but shot down the idea of taking over the Rockies\u2019 job, which is the last managerial opening in the big leagues right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cKind of had a pretty good feeling that this was going to be my last year in Toronto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don Mattingly on why he stepped away from the Blue Jays <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/D6c56OQDNm\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/D6c56OQDNm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 New York Post Sports (@nypostsports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypostsports\/status\/1986508627566268571?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">November 6, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t say this in a bad way, but the Rockies is probably not a good fit for me,\u201d Mattingly said. \u201cThat\u2019s more of a building situation, probably meant more for a younger guy with lots of energy.
