The Colorado Rockies have been the laughingstock of Major League Baseball for the past few years. The team hasn\u2019t come close to making to playoffs in any of the previous seven seasons, and with three straight 100-loss seasons, things have only gotten worse at 20th and Blake.<\/p>\n

Plenty of the blame has been put on Rockies owner and CEO Dick Monfort \u2014 who said he doesn\u2019t think he\u2019s as bad as the public thinks<\/a> \u2014 Executive Vice President Walker Monfort and the rest of the wealthy family that has been in charge of one of the least productive franchises in the history of baseball. They haven\u2019t put together a competent front office, which hasn\u2019t been able to put together a competent coaching staff, which hasn\u2019t been able to lead a less-talented group of players. Rockies fans are fed up, and have been expressing their frustrations more and more as the losing has continued to pile up.<\/p>\n

At the introductory press conference<\/a> for new President of Baseball Operations Paul DePodesta<\/a> on Thursday, Walker Monfort emphasized that he feels similar to the frustrated fanbase.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all know it\u2019s been a tough stretch here for Rockies, to say the least,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd there are no excuses for that\u2026 From here on, we will not accept anything other than progress. To our fans, we know you\u2019re frustrated. You have every right to be. We are too. And I can\u2019t express how grateful we are for your continued passion and support. I know you\u2019re tired of seeing words, you want to see action.\u201d<\/p>\n

That was in Walker\u2019s opening statement, it wasn\u2019t in a response to a question he was asked by a member of the media.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s ironic that he said he\u2019s tired of seeing words, as this is just more stuff that fans will likely use as fuel in hopes of forcing a sale of the franchise. Remember, baseball is played on the diamond, not on paper, where all of Walker and Dick\u2019s empty words have been spewed onto throughout the 2020s.<\/p>\n

This organization looked to be trending in the right direction after the 2018 season. Two consecutive postseason appearances were made possible because of a talented roster and a competent coaching staff, something that sounds like a pipe dream as 2026 draws closer. It\u2019s likely that no big change on the field will happen until the Montfort family is out of the organization, but given that they likely aren\u2019t going anywhere anytime soon, bringing in an external voice in DePodesta to start is a minuscule step in the right direction.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday marks something new. Today is the first day of our future.\u201d<\/p>\n
