NEWARK, N.J. (AP) \u2014 A person attempted to confront New Jersey\u2019s top federal prosecutor at her office Wednesday night, Attorney General Pam Bondi said.<\/p>\n
The person destroyed property at acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba\u2019s office in Newark before fleeing, Bondi said in a post to X<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n \u201cThankfully, Alina is ok,\u201d Bondi said.<\/p>\n The New York Times, citing two sources, reported that a man had a baseball bat when he appeared at the office<\/a>, but was prevented by security officers from entering. However, the person returned without the bat and was allowed to enter the building.<\/p>\n Habba was previously President Donald Trump\u2019s personal lawyer, representing him in various cases and acting as his spokesperson on legal matters. She served as a White House adviser briefly before Trump named her as interim U.S. attorney in March.<\/p>\n \u201cI will not be intimidated by radical lunatics for doing my job,\u201d Habba wrote on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n The FBI said it was aware of the alleged attack. A message seeking comment was left for Habba\u2019s office.<\/p>\n \u201cAny violence or threats of violence against any federal officer will not be tolerated. Period,\u201d Bondi said in her X post.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will find this person, and the individual will be brought to justice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n In a post<\/a> on X, NJ Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, said he was grateful that Habba was not harmed.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is absolutely unacceptable to make threats against federal officials,\u201d he added. \u201cPolitical violence has no place in our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump formally nominated Habba as New Jersey\u2019s permanent U.S. attorney on July 1, but the state\u2019s two Democratic U.S. senators, Cory Booker and Andy Kim opposed it, stalling the confirmation process<\/a>.<\/p>\n A few weeks later, as Habba\u2019s 120-day interim appointment was expiring, New Jersey federal judges moved to replace her with her second-in-command. Bondi then fired that prosecutor<\/a> and renamed Habba as acting U.S. attorney.<\/p>\n
