Outside of the heater, he primarily used a cutter (21 percent) and curve (15 percent) as his other options. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdding a changeup off a splitter, probably more leaning toward a changeup, might be easier for me,\u201d Schlittler <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/yesnetwork\/status\/1996370263747838323?s=43&amp;t=0WTU_Sy3GjXlGd8sFXQJ8g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said during an appearance on \u201cYankees Hot Stove\u201d on YES Network<\/a>. \u201cI think that\u2019s an important pitch to include because I didn\u2019t have that option down to lefties \u2014 or even righties as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schlittler said he started throwing three weeks ago and has begun to work on some grips and will really ramp up in a few weeks in Tampa. <\/p>\n<p>When pressed on why he would be tinkering with his pitch mix, Schlittler said his fastball is still his strength but that a changeup or splitter will help him \u201cneutralize\u201d certain counts.<\/p>\n<p>The Northeastern product became a bright spot in the Yankees\u2019 rotation in 2025, pitching to a 2.96 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 73 innings. <\/p>\n<p>His <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/04\/sports\/cam-schlittler-relishes-shutting-up-unhinged-red-sox-fans-years-after-boston-spurned-the-hometown-product\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">12-strikeout, eight-inning masterpiece<\/a> in the deciding Game 3 of the wild-card series against the Red Sox proved to be one of the highs of not only his season, but the Yankees\u2019 year as a whole.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.4862119;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37838049\" width=\"877\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/100225Yankees068CW-1.jpg\" alt=\"Cam Schlittler\" class=\"wp-image-37838049\"  \/>Cam Schlittler had an impressive rookie season with the Yankees. Charles Wenzelberg \/ New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Part of what helped him down the stretch was correcting a pitching-tipping issue that came to a head during a Sept. 5 start against the Blue Jays in which 24 of his 66 pitches were fouled off. <\/p>\n<p>Thanks to some help from the \u201cguru\u201d Gerrit Cole and lefty Carlos Rodon, Schlittler said he changed how he came to a set in the stretch without pumping his glove. There was even an adjustment in October that he made to truly ensure he wasn\u2019t giving away his offerings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I got to playoffs, I started pre-gripping a changeup \u2014 I don\u2019t even have a changeup,\u201d Schlittler said. \u201cSo I started pre-gripping a changeup out of the windup, stretch just to kind of avoid tinkering with one pitching or sitting on one.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Cam Schlittler wants to build on his rookie year and add on it \u2014 literally.
