The Rangers came to New York. They dodged rain<\/a> and continued their aversion to scoring runs, losing 1-0 to the Yankees to complete New York\u2019s three-game sweep at Yankee Stadium. The Rangers fell back below .500 to 25-26. <\/p>\n

The story: Same old song and dance. The Rangers were shut out for the sixth time this season. Not much more needs to be said. <\/p>\n

The offense: OK, let\u2019s say a little more. The Rangers did not manage a run on anything other than a homer in New York. Jonah Heim had a two-run shot in the ninth inning Tuesday to avert a shutout. Jake Burger hit two solo shots and Sam Haggerty added another on Wednesday. Five runs in three games. All via the homer. Haggerty did have a double on Wednesday, which gave him the cycle over the three-game series in New York. It was also only the Rangers\u2019 62nd double of the year. In 51 games. They are 29th in the majors.<\/p>\n

The starter: On top of the ongoing offensive outage, the Rangers wasted another fantastic start by Nathan Eovaldi, who allowed only a leadoff homer to Jorbit Vivas in the fifth inning. Eovaldi managed to lower his ERA, albeit only by a hundredth of a point, which is still hard enough when you begin the day at 1.61. It marked the sixth consecutive start for Eovaldi in which he\u2019s pitched at least five innings and allowed one or no runs. It matches Jon Gray in 2023 for the longest such streak in Rangers history. And yet, he took a loss. <\/p>\n

The stat: Hard to think about the playoffs at this moment, but since the Rangers tweaked the rotation so that Jacob deGrom is followed by Nathan Eovaldi, there is some kinda magic in the air. The stretch started on April 19 when Eovaldi followed deGrom for the first time. Since then, they\u2019ve combined to make 13 starts, compiled a composite 1.37 ERA and have struck out 89 batters to 12 walks in 79 innings. That\u2019s a ridiculous 7.4 strikeout-to-walk rate.<\/p>\n
