MLB.com | Bryan Hoch<\/a>: As much as it\u2019s probably eating him alive inside, Gerrit Cole was in good spirits as he talked about how his rehab his going. He said his arm is feeling stronger, he\u2019s at the Stadium working out often, and hopes to be playing catch some time in August. He also talked about how he plans on being around the team more now that his arm is doing better and how he\u2019s thinking of this year as a \u201cpit stop\u201d and that he\u2019ll hopefully come back fresh next year.<\/p>\n

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch<\/a>: Doubling down on Hoch! When the Yankees<\/a> signed Max Fried, they were hoping to finally have a true No. 2 starter to complement Cole at the top of the rotation. Unfortunately, Cole\u2019s injury moved everyone up a spot in the depth chart, which meant Fried was suddenly the ace he wasn\u2019t meant to be, at least this year on this team. Fortunately, what he\u2019s doing should come as no surprise, but he\u2019s lived up to the bill \u201cand then some.\u201d<\/p>\n

NJ.com | Max Goodman<\/a>: In other injured Yankees news, though he suffered a minor setback last week, DJ LeMahieu has been back in action with Double-A Somerset and hitting the ball well in his six rehab games thus far. There\u2019s a chance he rejoins the team during the upcoming West Coast trip and will mostly be looked at to fill in at second base, especially with Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the shelf. Aaron Boone also offered an update on Marcus Stroman, who was scheduled to throw a bullpen yesterday and then graduate to facing live hitters. Once he hits that milestone, they\u2019ll figure out what the next steps for him to return are. <\/p>\n

Athlon Sports | Kristie Ackert<\/a>: Aaron Boone had some fun with MLB insider Jon Morosi yesterday. The Rangers fired Donnie Ecker, their Offensive Coordinator (what sport are we talking about?), on Sunday and Monday morning, Boone asked Morosi if he heard anything about who they\u2019d hired to replace him. Morosi didn\u2019t know, so Boone asked him to text him once he heard. Of course, later on news broke that Boone\u2019s older brother Bret as their new hitting coach and that\u2019s when Morosi realized he had been both scooped and trolled by the Yankees\u2019 skipper. <\/p>\n
