Devin Williams departed the New York Yankees<\/a> for the New York Mets<\/a> this offseason, and it seems like not too many people in the Yankees\u2019 brass were upset about it.<\/p>\n

According to Jon Heyman<\/a> of the New York Post, some of those within the Yankees were \u201crelieved\u201d to see Williams depart for the Mets. Williams landed in the Bronx last offseason in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a>, and didn\u2019t have quite the season he had hoped for.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Williams was 4-6 while sporting a 4.79 ERA with 18 saves, a far fall from his usual All-Star level production. He was taken in and out the closer\u2019s role multiple times, and was never put back in that spot again after the team acquired David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Williams was able to re-discover some of his old magic later in the season as a setup man, but by then the damage had already been done, and it was clear that Williams and the Yankees were not a match.<\/p>\n

Williams will now join a Mets team that has just lost Edwin Diaz to the Dodgers, so it\u2019s very possible that he is closing games in New York once again. He\u2019ll look to bounce back after a disastrous time with the Yankees.<\/p>\n
