Detroit Tigers<\/a> second baseman Gleyber Torres<\/a> hobbled down the steps in the dugout between the third and fourth innings, followed by an assistant athletic trainer.<\/p>\n

He suffered another injury.<\/p>\n

Torres, 28, exited the May 22 series opener against the Cleveland Guardians<\/a> with a lower right left discomfort. He previously was sidelined from March 29 to April 11 with a left oblique strain, which sent him to the injured list. The severity of his right leg injury is unclear, as he continues to be evaluated.<\/p>\n

“He wasn’t moving great,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said after a 7-0 loss<\/a>. “I need to talk to the doctors and figure out the extent of what it is.”<\/p>\n

In 2025, Torres has been one of the Tigers’ best hitters.<\/p>\n

He is hitting .277 with five home runs, 16 walks and 15 strikeouts across 38 games. He has been worth minus-4 defensive runs saved as the everyday second baseman.<\/p>\n

Facing the Guardians, Torres lined out to end the third and departed before the fourth, replaced by Andy Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez at second base. The ball in play \u2014 hit with a 105.3 mph exit velocity \u2014\u00a0had a .670 expected batting average, but Torres was slow out of the batter’s box and didn’t run to first base.<\/p>\n

“When he came back, he said he felt a little something in his lower leg,” Hinch said. “We talked through the pros and cons of going out on defense. He thought he might be able to go back out on defense. He was just uncomfortable enough that I pulled him out of the game.”<\/p>\n

The Tigers signed Torres to a one-year, $15 million contract<\/a> in December 2024.<\/p>\n
