{"id":482872,"date":"2025-12-18T10:50:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T10:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/482872\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T10:50:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T10:50:13","slug":"fenway-sports-group-to-sell-pittsburgh-penguins-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/482872\/","title":{"rendered":"Fenway Sports Group to sell Pittsburgh Penguins (report)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"H2BVQNN4KNF65M7HRLM3U3G6MM\">Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/redsox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/redsox\/\">the Red Sox,<\/a> seems poised to get out of the hockey business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KCPMDHUOGFAHRPFVPYEEGIRD6E\">NHL insider Frank Seravalli reports that FSG is close to an agreement to sell the Pittsburgh Penguins to a Chicago-based group. The group is headed by David Hoffman, who leads an investment group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"S2BH432A7VBBRA46SUP6744B7M\">An announcement, Seravalli wrote, would be made in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2YFPT36HLJCJJLJ5AEHNBUW53A\">There have been rumors that FSG were shopping the Penguins for the past year or so, with no official confirmation coming from the Boston-based group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LV34X3L2BNAWHNWLOMLNQYZFJ4\">FSG purchased the Penguins for $900 million in late 2021 from a group led by former Penguin great Mario Lemieux and partner Ron Burkle. Both Lemieux and Burkle have remained with the organization after the sale to FSG.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7CSZ4URPDNHAHEFSPI53PXE2CQ\">There\u2019s no word on the sale price, although recent reports have the franchise\u2019s value estimated at $1.75 billion.
