Very few teams can compare to the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>‘ effort this offseason. Their additions of Taylor Ward, Pete Alonso, Ryan Helsley, and Shane Baz are major moves that indicate a clear tone shift.<\/p>\n

Simply put, the Orioles are now trying to contend. But, after those trades and signings, the Orioles are still expected to be active this winter. One of their next moves could come in the form of a starter pitcher, with a rotation spot still open.<\/p>\n

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post<\/a>, the Orioles are showing more than just interest in former Houston Astros<\/a> ace Framber Valdez. They’ve met with the lefty, and will contend with the New York Mets<\/a> and San Francisco Giants<\/a> in his market.<\/p>\n

“The Mets, along with the Giants and Orioles, are among the teams that met with star free agent pitcher Framber Valdez,” Heyman reported.<\/p>\n

This report from Heyman opens the door for a potential free agent signing. While the Orioles have already spent a lot of assets and money this offseason, Valdez could be their next big addition.<\/p>\n

He’s a two-time All-Star with a career 3.36 ERA in eight seasons with the Astros. Last year, he had a 3.66 ERA, which, by his standards, was a down year.<\/p>\n

Valdez is the most reliable starter left on the market. The left-hander has started at least 28 games each of the last four seasons and has posted a 3.21 ERA across 121 games in that time.<\/p>\n

Baltimore will have to spend a bit to sign him, but Valdez, who’s the best starter left on the free agent market, would be worth it for the Orioles.<\/p>\n

Instead of trying to make another trade for a starter, Mike Elias and company should spend money on Valdez to bring him in. Even if it’s a nine-figure deal, it would be worth it to pair Valdez with the new-look Orioles rotation in 2026 and beyond.<\/p>\n
