Anthony Rizzo may have taken his last big-league at-bat \u2014 but his baseball story might not be finished just yet.<\/p>\n
The former Yankees first baseman was recently invited by Team Italy general manager Ned Colletti to join the country\u2019s roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, per 670 The Score\u2019s Bruce Levine<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI spoke to him months ago, and he said, \u2018Let me think about it,\u2019\u201d the former Dodgers GM said Saturday during an appearance on\u00a0WSCR\u2019s \u201cInside The Clubhouse.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n Anthony Rizzo last appeared in the majors back in 2024 with the Yankees. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST<\/p>\n \u201cI told him, \u2018Even if it\u2019s a pinch-hitting role or something like that, I\u2019d love to have you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Rizzo, whose grandparents emigrated from Ciminna, Sicily, previously suited up for Team Italy in the 2013 WBC.<\/p>\n He went 4-for-17 with five walks across five games, helping Italy reach the second round of the tournament before being eliminated by Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n The 36-year-old last appeared in the majors in 2024, slashing .228\/.301\/.335 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs in 92 games with the Yankees.<\/p>\n Rizzo suited up for Team Italy in the 2013 WBC, notching four hits in five games before being eliminated.
