Once the New York Yankees<\/a> feel comfortable with how the lineup looks, the next move feels obvious. The rotation still needs help.<\/p>\n

New York has enough arms to get through the regular season, but that\u2019s not really the idea here. Injuries are already part of the conversation with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon, and there isn\u2019t much if they were to be hurt.<\/p>\n

Sure, the Yankees’ staff is decent, but it needs to stay healthy.<\/p>\n

Signing depth helps, but it doesn\u2019t change that reality.<\/p>\n

If the Yankees decide to be aggressive, it\u2019s likely going to be via trade rather than another short-term signing. They\u2019ve shown a willingness to deal from prospect depth when the fit makes sense, and I\u2019d expect that to be the case again this winter.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where Freddy Peralta comes into play. The Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> right-hander is under control, elite, and capable of handling a significant workload.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s the type of starter who would change things for New York.<\/p>\n

Alexander Wilson of Empire Sports predicted the Yankees will pivot in that direction once the lineup is settled and sign Peralta.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce the lineup is secured, I expect Cashman to aggressively pivot to the rotation by targeting Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta. The Yankees and Brewers already have a well-oiled trade pipeline, established last winter when New York sent Nestor Cortes and Caleb Durbin to Milwaukee for Devin Williams.<\/p>\n

Peralta is the legitimate frontline hammer that helps protect a unit already dealing with major injury questions,\u201d he wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If the Yankees make a move, it\u2019s hard to see it being for another depth arm. A pitcher like Peralta fits what they\u2019d be trying to accomplish at this stage of the offseason.<\/p>\n
