CHICAGO \u2014 The Rangers<\/a>\u2019 offense no doubt needs Corey Seager<\/a> back. He\u2019s near a significant step that could determine how soon he can return. <\/p>\n

Seager, sidelined since May 13 with a right hamstring strain, could face live pitching as soon as Saturday according to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy<\/a>. The 31-year-old has not played since May 10 and was eligible to return from the injured list Wednesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cCorey seems to be doing well,\u201d Bochy said before Friday\u2019s series opener vs. the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field. \u201cWe\u2019ll start getting him ramped up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seager slashed .300\/.346\/.520 in 26 games before his second placement on the injured list this season. He missed 10 games with a right hamstring strain that he suffered on April 22, returned to play in five during the first week of May and landed back on the injured list after the muscle continued to irritate him. It was the fourth time in his career that he went on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. <\/p>\n

He left the team Thursday to have his hamstring \u201cfurther evaluated\u201d by someone else in an effort to better understand how to prevent another injury. Bochy said Thursday that the club will not receive the results of that checkup until Monday, but, \u201cwe felt like it was a really productive day for him, and we just wanted to check everything out and make sure we\u2019re doing everything right.\u201d <\/p>\n

Bochy also said that center fielder Evan Carter<\/a>, who was placed on the injured list Sunday<\/a> with a right quad strain, could start running \u201cin the next couple of days.\u201d Carter\u2019s injury was ruled a Grade 2 strain and could sideline him for multiple weeks. <\/p>\n
