It\u2019s officially 2026, but Alex Bregman is still unsigned two months after opting out of his contract<\/a> with the Boston Red Sox.<\/p>\n

In an article for MLB.com<\/a> on Thursday night, MLB insider Mark Feinsand provided fresh updates on the top six remaining free agents, including Bregman.<\/p>\n

While Feinsand writes that \u201cas many as a half-dozen teams\u201d have been linked to the All-Star third baseman this offseason, including the Red Sox, \u201cSources believe the Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks may be the two most aggressive clubs in the hunt for Bregman, though a Red Sox reunion remains a possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is a concerning update for Boston, which has generally been considered the favorite<\/a> to sign Bregman. That may no longer be the case, however, based on Feinsand\u2019s new report.<\/p>\n

The Blue Jays are a serious threat. Not only do they play in the same division as the Red Sox, but they\u2019re also coming off a World Series appearance and have been aggressive this winter, inking Dylan Cease to a historic seven-year, $210 million deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Missing out on Bregman would be bad enough for Boston, but losing him to a division rival and the reigning American League champs would be devastating.<\/p>\n

The Diamondbacks are also in the market for a third baseman after trading Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners last summer, so it\u2019s not surprising that they\u2019re making a push for Bregman as well.<\/p>\n

Feinsand adds that the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers have also been connected to Bregman, although the Tigers don\u2019t appear as serious<\/a> this winter after Bregman turned down their six-year, $171.5 million offer last offseason.<\/p>\n

With Arizona and Toronto lurking, the Red Sox appear to have significant competition for Bregman and may need to act accordingly if they want him back.<\/p>\n
