{"id":505616,"date":"2026-01-04T22:05:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T22:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/505616\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T22:05:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T22:05:15","slug":"yankees-engaged-with-marlins-in-edward-cabrera-trade-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/505616\/","title":{"rendered":"Yankees engaged with Marlins in Edward Cabrera trade talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The offseason is in full swing, and teams around MLB are making moves to improve their rosters. <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/mlb-stories\/mlb-rumors-bo-bichette-free-agency-interest-yankees-dodgers-cubs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rumors are that the New York Yankees<\/a> are trying to find a starting pitcher via trade, and it appears they may have been in talks with the <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/miami-marlins\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Marlins<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reports indicate that the Yankees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6939550\/2026\/01\/04\/yankees-interest-edward-cabrera-marlins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">have reached out<\/a> to the Marlins about Edward Cabrera&#8217;s possible availability, according to Chris Kirschner and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. It&#8217;s a move the New York front office might be considering, as there are questions surrounding the starting rotation right now for next season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith uncertainty surrounding their starting rotation to begin the season, the New York Yankees are talking to the Miami Marlins about a potential trade for starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, league sources told\u00a0The Athletic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants are <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JonHeyman\/status\/2007886377955016705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">also rumored to be interested<\/a> in the 27-year-old pitcher, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Despite Cabrera being a solid starting pitcher for the Marlins, the club&#8217;s depth at the position provides the front office with options to address other areas of need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYankees are talking to Marlins about Edward Cabrera, a terrifically talented pitcher coming off [an excellent year (3.53 ERA). Cubs and Giants (and others) also believed [to be] interested. Marlins&#8217; pitching depth allows them to consider.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edward Cabrera is currently under Miami&#8217;s control through the 2028 campaign. Projections have the <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/mlb\/miami-marlins\/marlins-rumors-edward-cabrera-trade-talks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">former Marlins&#8217; Rookie of the Year Award winner<\/a> earning $3.7 million in arbitration in 2026. An agreement on his arbitration deal has not yet been reached.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 campaign was arguably the best of Cabrera&#8217;s five-year career.
