The Boston Red Sox<\/a> still need a third baseman for the season ahead.<\/p>\n

The most logical guy remaining in free agency is still Alex Bregman, who spent the 2025 season with Boston and was regarded as a solid leader for the Red Sox.<\/p>\n

But Bregman is sought after by other teams as the new year begins, too, namely the Detroit Tigers<\/a> and Chicago Cubs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox could need a backup plan.<\/p>\n

MLB.com’s Jared Greenspan<\/a> laid one out in a new article on Thursday: Eugenio Suarez.<\/p>\n

“Re-signing third baseman Alex Bregman would be an obvious move,” he writes. “If Bregman signs elsewhere, slugger Eugenio Su\u00e1rez could be a fallback option.”<\/p>\n

Suarez hit 49 home run in the 2025 MLB season.<\/p>\n

He began the year with the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> and was a monster, blasting 36 homers, including a four-HR game.<\/p>\n

He was traded to the Seattle Mariners<\/a> just before the trade deadline, and his hitting stats all declined, although he did still hit 13 home runs in his time in the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n

Suarez’s market hasn’t seemed particularly robust this offseason, with him linked to a number of teams that most wouldn’t regard as playoff contenders.<\/p>\n

If the Mariners don’t bring Suarez back, which is still up in the air, then he could fit nicely in Boston.<\/p>\n

He’d certainly have a lot of fun trying to blast baseballs over the Green Monster.<\/p>\n
