The San Francisco Giants<\/a> have made some moves this offseason to upgrade their starting rotation, most notably signing<\/a> starters Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle.<\/p>\n

That said, San Francisco may not be done there. According to<\/a> Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the San Francisco Giants are rumored to be interested in acquiring right-handed starter Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cabrera had a career year last season, posting an 8-7 record with a 3.53 ERA in 26 starts. Cabrera amassed 137 2\/3 innings while striking out 150 batters.<\/p>\n

Cabrera surpassed the 100-inning threshold for the first time in his career, proving himself as a durable starting option. He throws a five-pitch mix, including three breaking balls that help disrupt the timing of opposing hitters. With his fastball velocity in the 87th percentile according to<\/a> Baseball Savant, Cabrera’s off-speed pitches have generated plenty of chases outside the zone. Last season, his off-speed pitching run value ranked in the 94th percentile.<\/p>\n

Although the Giants have a solid group of five starters (Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Mahle, Houser and Landen Roupp), there is reason to believe that they have a desire to upgrade.<\/p>\n

Additionally, they could add stability to their rotation for the future. Especially considering both Ray and Mahle will reach free agency again next offseason.<\/p>\n

If acquired, Cabrera would be under team control until the 2029 offseason.<\/p>\n

Although the Giants are still linked to other free agents, it remains to be seen whether or not they’ll sign more players or upgrade their roster via trade instead.<\/p>\n
