{"id":507849,"date":"2026-01-06T13:23:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T13:23:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/507849\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T13:23:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T13:23:12","slug":"colorado-rockies-news-how-will-the-rockies-approach-the-arbitration-deadline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/507849\/","title":{"rendered":"Colorado Rockies news: How will the Rockies approach the arbitration deadline?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Thursday, January 8, is MLB\u2019s deadline for teams to agree to terms with their salary arbitration-eligible players.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">A failure to do so will lead to an arbitration hearing in February in which an independent arbiter will settle the matter and determine the player\u2019s salary based on numbers submitted by both sides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Back in early October, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/rockies-news\/75425\/previewing-arbitration-for-the-colorado-rockies-in-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skyler Timmins took an early look<\/a> at the Rockies\u2019 arbitration situation. Since then, the Rockies have parted ways with Thairo Estrada and Lucas Gilbreath, reducing the number of arbitration cases they will need to address.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The current Rockies roster has six players eligible for arbitration. Below is a discussion of their projected salaries, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlbtraderumors.com\/2025\/10\/projected-arbitration-salaries-for-2026.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MLB Trade Rumors<\/a>, for 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Brennan Bernardino \u2014 LHP (2.150)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Projected salary: $1.1 million<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The Rockies acquired Bernardino, 34, via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/colorado-rockies-news\/77000\/colorado-rockies-make-flurry-of-roster-moves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a trade with the Boston Red Sox<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">He has been a durable middle reliever for the Sox, pitching 50-52 innings over the last three seasons. Bernardino has a cumulative 3.46 ERA in 153 1\/3 IP with a 23.6% K% and a 9.9% BB%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Worth noting, Bernardino was particularly effective against lefties and kept them to .211\/.276\/.336.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Brenton Doyle \u2014 OF (2.161)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Projected salary: $3.2 million<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">As we wrote in \u201cRanking the Rockies,\u201d this was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/colorado-rockies-roster\/77181\/colorado-rockies-player-review-brenton-doyle-overcame-a-miserable-first-half-to-finish-with-a-positive-impact\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a down year for Doyle<\/a> due to injuries and personal issues. Still, he slashed .233\/.274\/.376 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">However, the Super Two player\u2019s defense remains elite, and the rumors are persistent that he is sought-after by other teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Ryan Feltner \u2014 RHP (3.071)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Projected salary: $2.3 million<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Last season found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/colorado-rockies-roster\/74942\/colorado-rockies-2025-season-review-ranking-the-rockies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Feltner mostly sidelined<\/a> due to injuries. The potential, though, is clearly there, and he is an intriguing piece for a Rockies team desperate for starting pitching.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Tyler Freeman \u2014 UTIL (3.046)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Projected salary: $1.8 million<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Freeman was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/colorado-rockies-roster\/74921\/freeman-raked-at-the-plate-tanked-in-the-field\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">valuable on offense but less so on defense<\/a>. One of the biggest questions surrounding him is how president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta will choose to deploy him on the 2026 roster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Jimmy Herget \u2014 RHP (4.069)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Projected salary: $4.2 million<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">If there was any good surprises in 2026, it was Jimmy Herget, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/colorado-rockies-roster\/77710\/somehow-jimmy-herget-was-fantastic-for-the-rockies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who finished with an exceptional season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Like Bernadino, Herget was durable and appeared in 59 games, earning a 2.48 ERA. There are rumors about stretching Herget out and altering his reliever role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Mickey Moniak \u2014 OF (4.027)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Projected salary: $4.2 million<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplerow.com\/colorado-rockies-roster\/75606\/moniak-had-career-year-at-plate-in-1st-season-with-rockies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Moniak was most successful in 2025<\/a> when he faced right-handed pitchers at Coors Field and had a career year. He is expected to make the highest salary in arbitration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Because arbitration hearings can become contentious, teams like to avoid them. In fact, the Rockies have only have five in their history with the most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1734621&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mlb.com%2Fnews%2Ftony-wolters-receives-rockies-club-offer%3Fadobe_mc%3DTS%253D1767664049%257CMCMID%253D28282484438008642775340819210741314687%257CMCORGID%253DA65F776A5245B01B0A490D44%40AdobeOrg%26affiliateId%3Dmlbapp-ios_webview_news-index%26rsid%3Dmlbios.at.bat.new.implementation\" rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">involving Tony Wolters in 2020<\/a>. (Wolters was not successful.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">It\u2019s worth noting that last season, Mickey Moniak and the Los Angeles Angels were unable to settle on an amount, which led to an arbitration hearing. Moniak ultimately won, and you may read more about that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/43643300\/mickey-moniak-defeats-angels-salary-arbitration\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.
