Michael Cerami of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Michael_Cerami\/status\/2008943998086312100?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bleacher Nation<\/a> was the first to report, with Ken Rosenthal of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Ken_Rosenthal\/status\/2008948960136946105?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Athletic<\/a> confirming. The Mets, Yankees and Giants were also reported to have shown interest in Cabrera.<\/p>\n<p>Cabrera, formerly a top 100 prospect, had arguably his best season in 2025. He pitched a career high 137 2\/3 innings to a 3.53 ERA and 1.228 WHIP with a 25.8% strikeout rate and 8.3% walk rate. He is a career 4.07 ERA and 1.309 WHIP pitcher who has struggled with various injuries since his debut in 2021, including shoulder issues, back issues, and elbow tightness and inflammation that landed him on the injured list for most of September at the end of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>Cabrera will join a rotation currently staffed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=boydma01,boyd--002mat&amp;search=Matthew+Boyd&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Matthew Boyd<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/i\/imanash01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shota Imanaga<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hortoca01,horton001cad&amp;search=Cade+Horton&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cade Horton<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/taillja01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jameson Taillon<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reaco01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Colin Rea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago is sending prized outfield prospect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/caissow01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Owen Caissie<\/a> to Miami as the centerpiece of the trade, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jeffpassan\/status\/2009013849949978680?s=46&amp;t=kUpMvteBnQd05qPl-EZNOw\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jeff Passan of ESPN<\/a> reports. Miami is also receiving infielders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hernan003cri,hernan002cri&amp;search=Cristian+Hern\u00e1ndez&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cristian Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=deleon000edg&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Edgardo De Leon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Caissie was Baseball America\u2019s No. 55 prospect in its August update and MLB Pipeline\u2019s No. 47 prospect in its latest rankings. He batted .286\/.386\/.551 with 22 homers and 28 doubles in 433 plate appearances for Triple-A Iowa. He made his major league debut in August, going 5-for-26 with one home run. Caissie is slated to join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stoweky01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kyle Stowers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/marseja01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=metsmerizedonline.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-07_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jakob Marsee<\/a> in a young, exciting Marlins outfield.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old De Leon had a strong season in the Arizona Complex League, batting .276\/.353\/.500 with five homers, five doubles and five triples in 153 plate appearances. As for Hern\u00e1ndez, MLB Pipeline ranked him as the No. 11 prospect in Chicago\u2019s system.
