Royals ballpark deal could proceed without voter approval"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-facilities \">Missouri officials said that K.C. could offer the Royals a new ballpark commitment \u201cwithout a public vote,\u201d as the state looks to keep the team following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/22\/chiefs-set-to-leave-arrowhead-for-44b-kansas-stadium-hq-and-mixed-use-district\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/22\/chiefs-set-to-leave-arrowhead-for-44b-kansas-stadium-hq-and-mixed-use-district\/\">Chiefs\u2019 plans to move to Kansas<\/a>, according to Kacen Bayless of the K.C. STAR. That suggests to critics that officials are \u201cconsidering a stadium-funding plan that would avoid a defeat at the ballot box,\u201d while local and state leaders \u201creject that framing.\u201d The suggestion has \u201cdrawn fresh scrutiny\u201d in the wake of Kansas luring the Chiefs. After a \u201ckey Kansas deadline lapsed last week,\u201d Missouri officials have \u201cexpressed renewed confidence they can keep the Royals.\u201d However, that new confidence also \u201cbrought fresh attention to the looming question of whether the team is interested in building a new stadium downtown or in the Northland.\u201d Missouri House Speaker Jonathan Patterson \u201ctouted both sites as appealing.\u201d He said that there was \u201cone element in particular that made the downtown Kansas City site attractive.\u201d Patterson: \u201cThe attractive thing about a Kansas City, Missouri, downtown location would be that it would not be subject to a vote. And I think the vote would be one of the things that we would have to overcome.\u201d Patterson said that he did \u201cnot believe the Royals or Jackson County wanted to go before voters again after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/04\/03\/kansas-city-chiefs-royals-stadium-vote-question-one-jackson-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/04\/03\/kansas-city-chiefs-royals-stadium-vote-question-one-jackson-county\/\">failed 2024 vote<\/a>.\u201d But both Patterson and K.C. Mayor Quinton Lucas \u201crejected the notion that Kansas City was trying to avoid a public vote on a new stadium downtown\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article314185507.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article314185507.html\">K.C.
