Southwest Airlines has signed on as the Cubs\u2019 new airline sponsor in a deal that includes first-time branding of Wrigley Field\u2019s upper deck. That 8,700-seat section will henceforth be known as the \u201cSouthwest Airlines Deck.\u201d<\/p>\n
The sponsorship is at the top-level \u201cLegacy Partner\u201d level, and also includes on-deck circles branding in the shape of Southwest\u2019s heart logo, another TBD asset and on-field signage along the foul lines. Southwest also receives rotational behind-the-plate signage and will sponsor \u201cFamily Sundays\u201d at Wrigley, along with branded in-game features and various community efforts. Southwest also gets \u201cOfficial Airline\u201d destinations for the Cubs, Wrigley Field and Sloan Park — the team\u2019s Mesa, Ariz. spring training home. The airline has also signed Cubs CF Pete Crow-Armstrong as an endorser.<\/p>\n
American Airlines was the Cubs sponsor in that category for the past ten years.<\/p>\n
Southwest and the Cubs are launching the sponsorship on Saturday with an oversized mockup of an airlines seat adjacent to the Wrigley Field marquee, along with player and mascot appearances, according to Cubs VP\/Corporate Partnerships Alex Seyferth.<\/p>\n
Jack Morton\u2019s Jack 39 is Southwest\u2019s sponsorship AOR.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir brand is at an inflection point and relying on assets like the Cubs to underscore things like their assigned seating, their increased presence of O\u2019Hare Airport, and their intangibles like combining the \u2018Friendly Confines\u2019 with what they feel are the friendliest skies,\u201d Jack 39 co-Head Ashley Brantman said.<\/p>\n
Other sports sponsorships for Southwest include a large SEC media\/sponsorship package and team tie-ups with the Avalanche, Nuggets, Padres, Rockies and Ravens.
