{"id":513007,"date":"2026-01-10T12:05:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T12:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/513007\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T12:05:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T12:05:14","slug":"arbitration-figures-fanduel-sports-network-update-matt-strahm-praise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/513007\/","title":{"rendered":"Arbitration figures, FanDuel Sports Network update, Matt Strahm praise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5i\">As the offseason rages on Kansas City still has their hands full in trying to continue <a href=\"https:\/\/kingsofkauffman.com\/former-mlb-gm-calls-royals-one-of-mlb-s-most-improved-teams-this-offseason-01keb4hn3e8x\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">their already strong winter momentum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5l\">And beyond the usual Hot Stove storylines, the Royals have had an all around had a busy week, much like many teams in baseball.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5o\">From Thursday&#8217;s arbitration deadline leaving a few major names heading for hearings, to the their uncertain broadcasting future, to a &#8220;new&#8221; name singing high praise of the organization, there&#8217;s plenty of headlines the Royals faithful ought to be aware of.<\/p>\n<p>Royals News: Initial arbitration figures revealed for pair of unsigned names<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5u\">The Royals&#8217; arbitration decisions on Thursday garnered plenty of headlines, whether it be from <a href=\"https:\/\/kingsofkauffman.com\/michael-massey-s-arbitration-number-proves-royals-overpaid-jonathan-india-in-november-01kefkdpe5cx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the names they avoided arbitration with<\/a> to the one&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/kingsofkauffman.com\/unfortunate-royals-arbitration-pattern-could-hint-at-fan-favorite-s-ultimate-fate-01kefv9x0p7z\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> headed for hearings later this winter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5x\">However, beyond exploring what missing out on a contract means for the two names headed for arbitration, what may&#8217;ve been initially overlooked in the moment is the figures that the team and players initially filed at.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"60\">ESPN&#8217;s Jeff Passan <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JeffPassan\/status\/2009451304418951490?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">revealed said figures that Kansas City and both Kris Bubic and Vinnie Pasquantino came in at<\/a> in their negotiations.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"63\">According to Passan, there was a $1 million gap between Bubic and the team, with the southpaw filing at $6.15 million and Kansas City at $5.15 million. And for Pasquantino, there was a $500,000 gap with the Pasquatch filing at $4.5 million and $4 million.<\/p>\n<p>Royals News: KC among MLB teams to cancel contract with FanDuel Sports Network<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"69\">Continuing on with the dramatic FanDuel Sports Network and Main Street Sports Group saga, the Royals were one of nine teams to cancel their contracts FanDuel Sports Network this week.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6c\">After Main Street Sports Group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/21\/sources-main-street-misses-cardinals-payment-will-shutter-if-it-cannot-sell-to-dazn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">missed a payment to the St. Louis Cardinals last month<\/a>, the Royals deal with them <a href=\"https:\/\/kingsofkauffman.com\/royals-broadcasts-in-limbo-as-fanduel-sports-network-future-turns-murky-01kd1vsk71xb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suddenly looked as though it was in jeopardy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6f\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6955733\/2026\/01\/08\/mlb-fanduel-sports-network-teams-cancel-contracts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">As Evan Drellich of The Athletic reported<\/a>, backing out of the contract means the Royals &#8220;safeguard themselves from the possibility Main Street files for bankruptcy&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6i\">Drellich also reports that similar to how these teams reworked their deals with the then Diamond Sports Group, when they were going through their financial issues a few years ago, they could end up renegotiating deals in the future should things start looking up for Main Street.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6l\">While an original deal between Main Street Sports group and DAZN looks unlikely at this point, the Sports Business Journal reports that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/07\/sources-main-street-hints-at-talks-with-second-bidder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fubo could be in the running to purchase them<\/a> now.<\/p>\n<p>Royals News: Newest KC reliever Matt Strahm sings high praise of organization<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6r\">Rounding things off on high note, one of the &#8220;newest&#8221; Royals had some glowing remarks for his &#8220;new&#8221; team.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6u\">Reliever Matt Strahm returned to the Royals last month <a href=\"https:\/\/kingsofkauffman.com\/royals-steal-familiar-lefty-reliever-from-phillies-in-pre-christmas-surprise-01kcvj52xvpq\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as a result of a pre-holiday trade with the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>, after being initially drafted by them, coming up through their farm system and then having a two-year stint with them at the beginning of his big league career.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-17\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6x\">And after making an appearance this week on Foul Territory, Strahm reflected on his previous time in Kansas City and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FoulTerritoryTV\/status\/2008707657566449769?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">discussed his fondness for the organization<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-18\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"70\">&#8220;Couldn&#8217;t be more excited to be home,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-21\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"79\">That&#8217;s the mantra, he said, that former general manager Dayton Moore instilled in everyone in the organization and was carried out in all the details.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-22\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7c\">&#8220;They do it the right way,&#8221; Strahm said. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-23\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7f\">&#8220;10:30 ground balls means Rusty Kuntz was hitting that fungo at 10:30,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It wasn&#8217;t at 10:35 because we&#8217;re waiting on [Eric] Hosmer.
