The officer\u2019s body was escorted to a medical examiner\u2019s office in North Texas on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The body of slain Copperas Cove Police Officer Elijah Garretson is escorted north to a medical examiner&#8217;s office in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAs we begin to navigate this incredibly difficult time, we ask for understanding and patience as our department, Officer Garretson\u2019s family, and our law enforcement family grieve this tremendous loss,\u201d the Copperas Cove Police Department wrote in a social media post. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe ask the community to keep Officer Garretson\u2019s loved ones and our department in their thoughts and prayers,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Garretson earned the Academic Award when he graduated from the Central Texas College Police Academy with the highest grade point average in the class, according to a social media post from June 2025.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Officer Garretson\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/36UA555TDBFSNKZEKD535ZYOO4.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"1468\" \/>Officer Garretson(Facebook)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The suspect in the shooting was located and, according to police, took his own life after a lengthy negotiation attempt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Texas Rangers are investigating.
