{"id":515855,"date":"2026-01-11T22:25:24","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T22:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/515855\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T22:25:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T22:25:24","slug":"ketel-martes-trade-fate-revealed-by-diamondbacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/515855\/","title":{"rendered":"Ketel Marte&#8217;s trade fate revealed by Diamondbacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ketel Marte will be staying in Arizona after all.<\/p>\n<p>The Diamondbacks are pulling their three-time All-Star off the trade block, The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a decision that comes less than two weeks after Arizona general manager Mike Hazen said that they <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/30\/sports\/ketel-marte-resolution-expected-shortly-after-trade-rumors-diamondbacks-gm\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wanted a resolution soon for the situation involving their second baseman<\/a>, who inked a $116.5 extension in April that runs through 2031 with a player option the final year.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38139599\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/marte-main-2-getty.jpg\" alt=\"Ketel Marte is pictured during the Diamondbacks' Sept. 20 game against the Phillies.\" class=\"wp-image-38139599\"  \/>Ketel Marte is pictured during the Diamondbacks\u2019 Sept. 20 game against the Phillies. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt never ended up getting that close,\u201d Hazen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/d-backs-not-trading-ketel-marte-this-offseason\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told MLB.com of possible deals<\/a> for Marte. \u201cJust sort of reaffirming what I\u2019ve been saying the entire offseason, like my expectation was this wasn\u2019t going to happen. I felt like I had to do my job just to listen to what people had to say. He\u2019s a superstar player for us, and has been for a long time, and is going to continue to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Diamondbacks\u2019 decision could have ripple effects for Alex Bregman\u2019s market, too, as Heyman previously reported that if Arizona signed Bregman, Marte could\u2019ve been an option for the Red Sox.<\/p>\n<p>He added Friday that the Diamondbacks could still be in on Bregman even after deciding to keep Marte, though.<\/p>\n<p>Marte, 32, earned a second Silver Slugger Award during the 2025 season after launching 28 homers, collecting 72 RBIs and hitting .283 with a .893 OPS.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38139600\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/marte-main-1-getty.jpg\" alt=\"Ketel Marte looks to make a throw during the Diamondbacks' Sept. 21 game against the Phillies.\" class=\"wp-image-38139600\"  \/>Ketel Marte looks to make a throw during the Diamondbacks\u2019 Sept. 21 game against the Phillies. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>So now he\u2019ll be tasked with helping the Diamondbacks get back to the postseason for just the second time since he was traded to Arizona by the Mariners following the 2016 season.<\/p>\n<p>He played a critical role in helping the Diamondbacks reach the World Series in 2023, hitting .329 with a .914 OPS across 17 games that postseason.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, at this juncture of our team, we just have a lot of uncertainty in areas and just have had to explore every option to build a team,\u201d Hazen told MLB.com. \u201cAnd fully acknowledging, if we had [traded Marte] it would have weakened our team, for sure, on one side of the ball tremendously. I don\u2019t love doing it for the human factor.
