The New York Mets<\/a> have remained active in free agency as the organization reshapes its roster, with many familiar faces no longer in Queens. Several of the team\u2019s newest additions arrived from across town, having played for the New York Yankees<\/a> the year prior.<\/p>\n

Last offseason, the Mets made headlines by prying away superstar Juan Soto<\/a> on a 15-year, $765 million deal.<\/p>\n

This winter, they have already added two relievers from the Yankees, Devin Williams and Luke Weaver, and they remain linked to another potential impact player in outfielder Cody Bellinger<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bellinger was a key contributor for the Yankees in 2025, posting a .272 batting average, .334 on-base percentage and .813 OPS with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs across 152 games while providing excellent defense.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 1, MLB insider Mark Feinsand reported<\/a>, \u201cThe Mets have been among the teams most often connected to Bellinger, and after trading Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil, the need for an outfielder (or two) is clear.\u201d<\/p>\n

The departure of two longtime fixtures only heightened the urgency, leaving a glaring hole in the lineup that Bellinger could immediately fill.<\/p>\n

And on Saturday, the Mets received encouraging news in their pursuit, as Bellinger\u2019s most likely landing spot, the Yankees, may have removed themselves from the race.<\/p>\n

Buster Olney of ESPN reported that the Yankees \u201care now operating under the assumption that (Cody) Bellinger is going to sign elsewhere\u201d (h\/t Bryan Hoch of MLB<\/a>.com).<\/p>\n

For the Mets, that development represents a potential turning point, opening the door for them to make a serious push at securing one of the league\u2019s most impactful bats.<\/p>\n

Bellinger\u2019s career accomplishments only strengthen his appeal for a Mets team eager to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season and make a return to the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Over nine years in MLB, he has collected an MVP award, Rookie of the Year honors, two All-Star selections, one Gold Glove, two Silver Sluggers and a World Series championship with the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He has also played for the Chicago Cubs<\/a> and most recently the Yankees, proving he is no stranger to the spotlight.<\/p>\n

With that track record of success and postseason experience, Bellinger represents the type of impact player who could help stabilize the Mets\u2019 lineup and provide the spark needed to push them back into contention.<\/p>\n
