multiple counts of child abandonment or endangerment<\/a> for his response to Robb Elementary in May 2022.<\/p>\nJurors on Monday heard from three Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers who responded to Robb Elementary in various capacities of crime scene processing.<\/p>\n
Texas Ranger Scott Swick told jurors what\u2019s expected of an officer when asked by prosecutors if he would stay by his car during an active shooter at a school.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would not,\u201d Swick said. \u201cI would make the best decision I could and go towards the shots.\u201d<\/p>\n
Defense attorneys argued that Gonzales took action by arriving first at Robb Elementary, being among the first to enter the school and taking gunfire in a hallway.<\/p>\n
However, prosecutors are asking jurors to consider criminal liability for Gonzales for not acting decisively when a Robb Elementary employee told him where the shooter was while still outside the school.<\/p>\n
Texas Ranger Roberto Montalvo Jr. told jurors it\u2019s incumbent on any law enforcement officer to go towards gunfire and not wait for backup or more protection.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf zero protection is all you got, you go in,\u201d Montalvo said. \u201cThere\u2019s some officers that possibility could respond from their house on an active shooter and they\u2019re not carrying any level 4 or level 3 protection,\u201d Montalvo said. \u201cAny responding officer, it\u2019s what you have at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
