VICTORIA, Texas-\u00a0\u00a0Texas A&M\u2013Victoria baseball officially opened its 2026 season with the first day of practice at Riverside Stadium, looking to build on a highly successful campaign from a year ago.<\/p>\n
The Jaguars finished the 2025 season with a 38\u201317 overall record, including a 22\u20138 mark in Red River Athletic Conference play and an impressive 26\u20134 record at Riverside Stadium. Their strong performance kept A&M\u2013Victoria ranked near the top of the NAIA baseball poll throughout the season, highlighted by a 6\u20134 victory over NCAA Division I Texas A&M\u2013Corpus Christi.<\/p>\n
Despite last season\u2019s accomplishments, the Jaguars enter the new year focused on maintaining their winning standard. A key factor in that pursuit is the return of several top contributors, including pitchers Jonathan Jones and Cuero native Jacob Baker.<\/p>\n
Jones, one of the team\u2019s top arms, is focused on carrying last season\u2019s momentum into 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like to keep the momentum going from last year and help put my team in position to win,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n
The Jaguars also welcome back key pieces in the outfield, including Terry Burrel and Jackson Purcell. Purcell, entering his second season with the program, says he feels settled and ready to take the next step.<\/p>\n
\u201cI now feel comfortable being here for a full season and hope this is a big year for me and my team,\u201d Purcell said.<\/p>\n
With experienced returners on both the mound and in the field, A&M\u2013Victoria looks to position itself for another successful season. The Jaguars open the 2026 campaign on the road against Texas Wesleyan, with first pitch scheduled for noon.<\/p>\n
