The New York Mets<\/a>‘ pursuit of free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker may be reaching its conclusion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That’s the latest indication from Mike Puma of the New York Post<\/a>. A decision may be coming soon.<\/p>\n

Puma wrote this on X on Wednesday afternoon:\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Mets expect to receive an answer relatively soon on Kyle Tucker. Team brass at the moment doesn\u2019t have a read on which way he might be leaning.”<\/p>\n

This report from Puma comes a day after reports indicated the Mets were offering anywhere between $40 and $50 million per season to Tucker on a shorter-term deal.<\/p>\n

Along with the Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> and Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> are believed to be in the running, too.<\/p>\n

Tucker is the consensus top free agent available, and he has taken his time to find the right destination.<\/p>\n

A number of teams who many thought might go after him haven’t. That includes the Cubs, who traded for Tucker before the 2025 season from the Astros but have opted to move on without him into the year ahead.<\/p>\n

The Mets seemingly don’t want to sign Tucker to a deal for 8-10 years, but instead have interest in shelling out bigger money to get Tucker for 3-5 years. It would give them another superstar along with Juan Soto, but it wouldn’t give them a second player to be locked into well into the next decade.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers at one point were believed to be offering a similar sort of deal, while it appears the Blue Jays would be the long-term option for Tucker.<\/p>\n

Whatever decision he makes, it’ll have a big impact across baseball. He’s that good.<\/p>\n
